COILS
Speed x Precision
Around 500 rotations per second
The coil plays a crucial role in quartz
watches, transmitting the electric power it
gets from the circuit to make the stepper
motor rotate. The coil is made by winding
thin copper wire around a cylindrical core.
At MIYOTA, we manufacture all our coils
in-house.
The copper wire we use for our coils
is one-quarter the thickness of a human hair.
In the manufacturing process, the wire is wound
around the core at a speed of roughly 500 rotations
per second. (That’s equivalent to anywhere
between 24,000 and 33,000 rpm!) It is not easy to
achieve consistent tightness without the wire
snapping or going slack.
MIYOTA scrupulously selects only the very
best copper materials for its coils. We also
spent decades refining the production
process before we attained our current levels
of speed and precision. The cumulative effect
of these advances builds over time, enabling
us to make movements of proven accuracy
and reliability.
