The union of legibility
and elegance

As the name makes clear,
the day/date indicator tells you the day and
date through a little window on the dial.
Without special printing technology,
it is not possible to achieve the levels of precision and
visibility this component demands.

At MIYOTA, as well as using lightfast inks,
we have also developed an original font designed for optimal readability.
The application of sophisticated dial printing technologies
further boosts the visibility and
legibility of the day/date indicator.

Our use of a manually operated printing press for overprinting is
a particularly complex and intricate aspect of the process.
Take the moon phase display as an example.
After first screen printing the background of the night sky,
we print the stars,
and then the moon, on top, making for no less than three rounds of printing in total.
In addition, when making black dials with white indexes,
we print a second layer of black over the original black background to achieve a
high-contrast effect that looks fantastic too.

Techniques like these ensure that the day and
date display in its little window is as legible as it is handsome.
It is just another example of MIYOTA’s uniquely fanatical attention to
detail—and its uniquely sophisticated print technologies—in action.
