JEWELS
Tiny gemstones of oversized importance
Watch movements contain a number of red gemstones referred to as jewels.
Synthetic rubies are often used to ensure the requisite level of hardness.
There are several different kinds of jewels: hole jewels
that support the wheel train and the balance staff and reduce friction;
cap jewels that minimize axial movement and
enhance oil retention; as well as pallet jewels and roller jewels.
Despite their small size, all the different jewels play a significant
role in the functioning of the watch.
At MIYOTA, we manufacture all our jewels in-house.
Thanks to an integrated production process,
which extends from raw-material formulation through to
granulation, formation, firing, machining and inspection,
we are able to create high-quality jewels perfectly matched
to the different movements we make.
Jewels determine a watch’s accuracy,
so the slightest deviation in processing can be fatal.
That’s why we process our jewels using ultra-thin wire
that we craft in-house with proprietary technology.
The ultra-precise machining know-how we have built up
over almost six decades results in jewels with a level of precision
that commercially available jewels simply cannot match.
